The Federal Government has announced plans to establish a new depot for the Nigerian Army in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

This approval increases the total number of army depots in Nigeria to three, alongside the long-established facilities in Kaduna and Osogbo.

According to the Punch newspaper, Mr. Dada Olusegun, the Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Social Media, shared the news in a post on X on Saturday.

He stated, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new depot for the Nigerian Army in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. This development raises the number of depots in Nigeria to three, from the one that has existed for decades: Kaduna, Osogbo, and now Abakaliki.”

In a video accompanying the announcement, Chief of Army Staff Major General Waidi Shaibu emphasized that this move is part of efforts to strengthen the Nigerian Army in response to ongoing security challenges nationwide. He noted that the new depot will train an additional 3,500 troops, with another 3,500 expected to arrive from Osogbo next week.
