ACOMIN CONVENES QUARTERLY MEETING TO CONSOLIDATE ON COMBATING GBV IN JIGAWA

The Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunization, and Nutrition (ACOMIN) convened its quarterly meeting in Dutse, Jigawa State, to address the pressing issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Hosted at the Jigawa State NUJ Press Centre, the meeting aimed to consolidate efforts among stakeholders to combat GBV effectively.
Baba Ali Hadejia, ACOMIN Coordinator, highlighted the necessity of thorough investigations and ongoing support for GBV victims. He emphasized ACOMIN’s commitment to justice for victims, noting the organization’s successes in addressing numerous cases.
Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN) in Jigawa, reported substantial progress in combating GBV and called for intensified community sensitization efforts by GBV/HR case managers. The meeting underscored the need for parental involvement in educating children about GBV prevention.
The gathering included a report presentation from various stakeholders, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing on initiatives, achievements, and challenges in GBV response.
Comrade Ismaila Ibrahim Dutse, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Jigawa State Council, advocated for partnerships with journalists and emphasized the importance of training for health workers and NGO members in GBV response. He reiterated the necessity of bringing perpetrators to justice and ensuring survivor support.
The meeting concluded with ACOMIN and NEPWHAN leaders visiting Dutse to seek collaboration with NUJ to raise awareness about the dangers of GBV. Dutse assured the Council’s commitment to enhancing journalists’ skills in reporting on GBV and abuse
