In a significant move to combat maternal mortality and enhance routine immunization coverage in Jigawa State, the Jigawa State Government, through the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (JSPHCDA), conducted an orientation program today and distributed engagement letters to 62 newly recruited midwives. The initiative was led by Dr. Shehu Sambo, the Executive Secretary of the Agency.
Earlier, these midwives participated in a screening exercise, from which successful candidates were selected to fill vacancies created by voluntary exits. The new recruits, hailing from various parts of the country, have committed to serve in ward-level Primary Health Care Centres (PHCCs) across all 27 Local Government Areas of the state. They will be deployed with Reproductive Health Coordinators to their designated LGAs and health facilities to address maternal mortality and bolster immunization efforts.
During the event, the Executive Secretary and Directors offered words of guidance and encouragement to the midwives, motivating them for their crucial roles in improving maternal and child health.
Assisting Dr. Sambo in distributing the engagement letters were Mal. Musa Nababa, Deputy Director of Human Resources; Alhaji Hassan Shuaibu Kwalam, PHC Director; Alhaji Yusuf Bashir Hakimi, Director of Planning; Alhaji Kabiru Usman, Director of Nursing (SMoH); Alhaji Yau Sani Kazaure, Director of Administration and Finance; and other staff members of the Agency.
This initiative highlights the Jigawa State Government’s commitment, under the visionary leadership of Governor Malam Umar Namadi, to enhancing healthcare delivery and strengthening primary health care services across the state.
