Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State emphasized the critical importance of education for the state’s future during the 2nd Combined Convocation Ceremony of Sule Lamido University (SLU) in Kafin Hausa.

Addressing graduates from six academic sessions, spanning from 2018/2019 to 2024/2025, the governor stated that education is the most reliable path to long-term development and stability.

According to a press statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Malam Hamisu Muhammed Gumel, the governor highlighted that education remains a sustainable investment, asserting, “there is no greater asset than its human resources.” He praised the gathering as a significant milestone in the university’s growth over the past decade and acknowledged the efforts of those who laid the foundation of SLU.

Governor Namadi who is also the Visitor of the University reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education, noting that budget allocations for the sector have consistently ranged between 26 and 30 percent in recent years. This investment has led to marked improvements in infrastructure, teaching outcomes, and a reduction in the number of out-of-school children.

He also revealed initiatives to enhance technical and vocational education, including the transformation of eight senior secondary schools into centers of excellence. Additionally, the state has taken over a private university in Majia, with plans to develop it into a specialized institution for medical and allied health sciences.

Governor Namadi announced ongoing projects at SLU, such as a Faculty of Medicine, new student hostels, and a Wetland Research Centre aimed at addressing environmental challenges. He urged graduates to uphold values of integrity and dedication to service in their future endeavors.

A total of 4,109 Bachelor’s degrees were awarded at the ceremony, which also featured the installation of the new Chancellor, Alhaji Umar Faruk II, the Emir of Katagum, and the conferment of honorary degrees to notable individuals, including Mr. Hamdi El-Sayyid Abdou and Mr. Hisham Mohammed Abdussalam.

The governor congratulated the graduates and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting tertiary education in the state.
