The Nigeria Police Force has announced the resumption of the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy, set to take effect on January 2, 2026.
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, clarified that there has been no court order preventing the enforcement of this law. However, the police had previously suspended enforcement to allow motorists time to regularize their documentation without pressure.
The statement explained that the decision comes amid rising security concerns related to criminal activities facilitated by vehicles with unauthorized tinted glass.
The resurgence in criminal incidents, including armed robbery and kidnapping, has prompted the police to act decisively. “The enforcement will be carried out with utmost professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights,” stated Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM.
Motorists needing a Tinted Glass Permit are encouraged to apply through approved channels to ensure compliance with legal requirements. The police emphasize their commitment to public safety and collaboration with stakeholders to maintain security in Nigeria.
