The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, has removed Comrade Zangina Mohammed Kura as Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, effective immediately. This decision follows his departure from active journalism and his candidacy for the Kura/Garin Malam State Constituency seat in the Kano State House of Assembly under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Chairman Ismail Ibrahim Dutse announced the decision in a statement issued on Sunday. The Council acted upon complaints and credible evidence confirming Kura’s shift away from journalism to participate in partisan politics.
This action aligns with the NUJ Constitution, specifically Articles 5, 7, and 8, which emphasize professional ethics and outline disciplinary measures for misconduct that could damage the Union’s reputation. The Union maintains that partisan political involvement by a serving officer undermines the neutrality and integrity of journalism.
Comrade Kura is instructed to promptly hand over all official responsibilities and assets of the Correspondents’ Chapel to the Vice Chairman until further notice. Non-compliance will result in referral to the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee.
The NUJ Jigawa State Council reaffirms its dedication to upholding professionalism and ethical journalism.
