Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi of Jigawa State has described the West Africa Social Activities (WASA) of the Nigerian Army as a cherished and unifying tradition that strengthens civil-military relations and promotes national cohesion.
The Governor made these remarks while attending the 2025 edition of WASA organized by the Nigerian Army at the 26 Armoured Brigade Barracks in ‘Yagaba, Dutse. He expressed deep appreciation for the honor of participating in the colorful cultural event, stating that WASA symbolizes unity, heritage, and mutual understanding between the military and host communities.
In a statement signed by Malam Hamisu Muhammad Gumel, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Namadi commended the leadership and personnel of the 26 Armoured Brigade for their remarkable achievements and collaborative efforts with other security agencies under Operation Salama. He noted that these efforts have been instrumental in combating kidnapping, cattle rustling, farmer-herder clashes, and other criminal activities across Jigawa State.
Governor Namadi specifically praised the officers and men of the Brigade for their exemplary leadership, dedication, discipline, and resilience, emphasizing that their professionalism and sacrifices help keep Jigawa State safe and secure. He honored fallen officers and soldiers who gave their lives in the line of duty, calling them heroes whose sacrifices will be remembered forever.
The Governor encouraged the personnel to remain steadfast and committed in their constitutional responsibilities, assuring them of the Jigawa State Government’s continued support. He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the necessary environment and equipment for the Armed Forces to function effectively nationwide.
Earlier, Brigadier-General T.J. Mackintosh, Commander of the 26 Armoured Brigade, described the Governor’s presence as a great honor. He explained that WASA is an age-old tradition observed annually at the end of the rainy season, allowing troops to showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage while strengthening cohesion and civil-military relations.
Brigadier-General Mackintosh noted that WASA offers a unique platform for barracks and host communities to appreciate Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage, reflect on the year’s successes, and reward outstanding contributions by officers and soldiers. Despite security challenges in the Brigade’s operational environment, he reported significant successes achieved through sustained operational and administrative engagements.
He assured that the 26 Armoured Brigade remains committed to consolidating operational gains and maintaining a high operational tempo to promptly address emerging security challenges in Jigawa State. The Brigade Commander thanked Governor Namadi for his unwavering support and commitment to security initiatives, which have strengthened civil-military relations and promoted lasting peace and stability in the state.
