Former Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has refuted reports alleging that he recently met with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and its 2023 presidential candidate.
Badaru described the circulating claims as unfounded and misleading, emphasizing his commitment and loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s leadership.
This clarification was made in a press statement issued and signed by his Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity, Comrade Mati Ali, and shared with journalists.
According to the statement, a photograph circulating online, which suggested a recent meeting between Badaru and Kwankwaso, is actually an old image taken on February 18, 2023. Comrade Mati Ali explained that the photo was captured when both leaders coincidentally encountered each other at the VIP Wing of an airport, not during any planned political meeting.
โ€œWe wish to draw the public’s attention to a photograph currently circulating on social media platforms, which falsely suggests that Badaru held a meeting with Senator Kwankwaso,โ€ the statement read.
The statement further noted that Badaru has been out of the country for over a month, making the alleged meeting impossible.
He urged the public to disregard the misleading report and cautioned social media users against sharing outdated materials that create false narratives. Badaru reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and reiterated his strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and its policy direction.
