The Jigawa State Government has invested nearly N7 billion in its Workers Agricultural Support Programme (JSWAP), benefiting over 17,000 civil servants through the revolving agricultural loan scheme since its inception.
This announcement was made during the flag-off of the 2026 Rainy Season Phase IV of the programme, held at the Jigawa Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO) premises in Dutse.
Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi, represented by Deputy Governor Engineer Aminu Usman, stated that the initiative is part of his administrationโs 12-Point Agenda aimed at enhancing the economic wellbeing of civil servants while increasing food production across the state.
According to the governor, the programme empowers workers by providing access to agricultural inputs and interest-free revolving loans, allowing them to engage in farming as an additional income source and contribute to food security.
Comrade Yushaโu Abubakar, Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiation Council (JPSNC), noted that the state government has committed almost N7 billion to the programme from Phases I to III, calling it one of the most successful agricultural interventions for workers in the stateโs history. He praised Governor Namadi for this historic investment in workersโ welfare and agricultural development.
The revolving nature of the programme ensures sustainability, enabling more workers to benefit each farming season. โWe are proud to say that this is the most successful revolving loan programme in Jigawa Stateโs history,โ Yushaโu remarked.
He also commended Alhaji Muhammad K. Dagaceri, Head of the Civil Service and Chairman of the Technical Committee, for his leadership and transparency in managing the programme, assuring workers that the committee would uphold accountability and prudent management for sustained success.
Dagaceri attributed the initiative’s success to Governor Namadiโs visionary leadership and commitment to workersโ welfare. He highlighted that the impressive loan recovery in previous phases has allowed the programme to function as a sustainable revolving fund, ensuring government resources are reused for supporting additional beneficiaries.
โThe commencement of Phase IV for the 2026 rainy season underscores Governor Namadiโs unwavering commitment to this programme and his continued support for the technical committee,โ he added.
The event drew participation from top government officials, members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, labor leaders, permanent secretaries, and representatives from organized labor and civil servants across the state.
