Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) hosted members of the National Assembly Joint Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity for an oversight visit to the National Shared Services Centre (NSSC), reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and cybersecurity.
In a press statement issued by Chidi Okpala, Head of Corporate Communications, the delegation included members from both the Senate and House Committees on ICT and Cybersecurity. The visit was led by Hon. Stanley Olajide Adedeji, Chairman of the House Committee on Digital and Information Technology, representing Senator Shuiab Afolabi Salisu, Chairman of the Senate Committee.
The oversight aimed to assess GBB’s activities, projects, and programmes while engaging management on key operational matters. This interaction fostered robust discussions on the agency’s mandate, performance milestones, and strategic direction for Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
Hon. Adedeji emphasized technology’s critical role in national development, highlighting the necessity of sustained legislative support for the ICT sector to enhance Nigeria’s economic growth, security, and global competitiveness. He described Galaxy Backbone as a strategic asset that requires support and strengthening to effectively fulfill its mandate.
The Chairman also underscored the need for increased investment and funding for government ICT institutions, noting that organizations like Galaxy Backbone are pivotal for building the digital infrastructure essential for governance, economic resilience, and Nigeria’s competitiveness.
Earlier, Prof. Ibrahim A. Adeyanju, the Managing Director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone, expressed gratitude to the Joint Committee for its oversight and support, reaffirming GBB’s commitment to providing secure, reliable, and scalable ICT infrastructure and shared services to Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and the private sector.
During the visit, management delivered a comprehensive presentation on the organization’s current performance and strategic roadmap, highlighting the Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS) 2024–2028. This blueprint aims to drive digital transformation, expand national infrastructure, enhance cybersecurity resilience, and enable seamless services between government entities and citizens.
The engagement concluded with a tour of the National Shared Services Centre, where the Joint Committee members were briefed on critical infrastructure, operational frameworks, and service delivery capabilities supporting Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
Galaxy Backbone calls on MDAs and other government establishments to leverage its world-class Tier III data centres and extensive high-speed fibre infrastructure to strengthen service delivery, enhance data sovereignty, and promote operational efficiency.
