3 Suspects Arrested Over Gruesome Killing of Housewife,  Her Six Children in Kano

The Kano State Police Command, following directives from Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has utilized intelligence-led policing to apprehend three suspects in the brutal murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano, on January 17, 2026. Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police (CP) Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, a specialized team successfully executed the arrests.
According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects—Umar Auwalu (23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters), Isyaku Yakubu, also known as ‘Chebe’ (40, of Sagagi Quarters), and Yakubu Abdulaziz, also known as ‘Wawo’ (21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters)—were apprehended during a sting operation that took place between 10 PM on January 17 and 4 AM on January 18.
Umar Auwalu, identified as the leader of the syndicate and a nephew of the deceased, confessed to the crime and revealed the group’s involvement in other violent acts, including the recent killing and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters.
Items recovered from the suspects included bloodstained clothing, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club (gora), cash stolen from the scene, and additional dangerous weapons. Investigations are ongoing.
The Kano State Police Command commended the efforts of the involved officers and expressed gratitude to the public for their support, assuring a commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice.
