Dangyatin Emerges Chairman APC Progressive Speakers Conference

The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, has been elected Chairman of the Progressive Speakers Conference, the umbrella body of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Rt. Hon. Dangyatin emerged chairman during the annual congress and election of new executive members of the Conference, which took place in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The Progressive Speakers Conference was established to serve as a coordinating platform for APC Speakers across the country, with the mandate of promoting the party’s ideology, strengthening inter-legislative collaboration, advancing democratic governance, and contributing to peace, stability and national development.

The election of the Jigawa Speaker is widely seen as a recognition of his leadership qualities, legislative experience and commitment to party ideals, as well as Jigawa State’s growing influence within the APC political structure.

Other officials elected at the congress include the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, who emerged as Deputy Chairman (South), while the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly was elected Deputy Chairman (North). The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly was elected Treasurer of the Conference.

In addition, six Zonal Vice Chairmen were elected to represent the country’s geopolitical zones. Among them is the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, who was elected Vice Chairman for the South-West Zone, while the North-Central Zone is represented by the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, among others.

The newly elected executive members of the Progressive Speakers Conference are expected to be sworn in on Monday, February 9, 2026.
Reacting to the development, Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi, has congratulated Rt. Hon. Dangyatin on his election, describing it as well-deserved and timely.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary Hamisu Muhammad Gumel, the governor noted that Dangyatin’s emergence comes at a critical period when the APC is preparing for future political engagements, including the 2027 general elections.

Governor Namadi expressed confidence that the Jigawa Speaker would deploy his wealth of experience, leadership skills and commitment to party unity to strengthen coordination among APC lawmakers nationwide.

He further stated that Dangyatin’s leadership would contribute significantly to consolidating democratic values within legislative institutions and enhancing the APC’s prospects at all levels of governance in the forthcoming elections.
