The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved ₦2.65 billion for the 2026 Hajj operations, alongside significant funding decisions for infrastructure development and compensation for displaced persons across the state.
According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa Ahmed, the Council approved ₦2,651,596,547.52 to ensure the smooth airlifting and welfare of Jigawa State pilgrims to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the 2026 Hajj exercise.
These funds will cover air transportation, accommodation, feeding, medical services, orientation programs, and other logistics needed for a seamless pilgrimage. The Council reaffirmed its commitment to supporting religious obligations, ensuring pilgrims perform Hajj safely and with dignity, in line with international best practices.
Additionally, the Council approved ₦74 million for compensation and resettlement of 229 persons affected by the construction of the Yargaba Army Barracks. The affected individuals will be resettled through allocated residential plots and farmland at designated locations, adhering to government policies on displacement and resettlement.
Furthermore, the Council authorized variations and additional works on the ongoing Maigatari–Jobi–Kukatankiya–Dantakore–Dangwanki–Mekekiya–Maizuwo–Lululu Road project, which includes a spur to Unguwar Gawo–Babaura, spanning 69.9 kilometers. This approval includes ₦6.35 billion for contract variations and ₦7.69 billion for additional works, raising the total project cost from ₦15.05 billion to ₦29.08 billion.
The Council explained that these variations were necessary due to design adjustments, scope expansion, and emerging engineering and environmental challenges, aimed at ensuring durability, safety, and value for money.
Completion of this strategic road will enhance connectivity, boost socio-economic activities, improve access to agricultural markets, and accelerate development in benefiting communities. The Jigawa State Government reiterated its commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and policies that enhance citizens’ welfare and promote sustainable development.
