The Jigawa State Rapid Response Team from the Public Health Department of the Ministry of Health has visited Babura General Hospital to investigate a suspected case of Lassa fever and implement preventive measures to halt further transmission.
According to a Press statement signed by Suleman Daudu, Information Officer for Babura Local Government Area, the deceased, Habibu Haruna, was a resident of Gari Uku village. He was admitted to Babura General Hospital with symptoms consistent with Lassa fever and was subsequently referred to Danmasara Teaching Hospital, where laboratory tests confirmed the diagnosis.
Dr. Sabiu Aliyu, WHO/APHO representative and team leader, revealed that the deceased had recently traveled to Saminaka in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In response, essential drugs and personal protective equipment (PPE) have been supplied to Babura General Hospital. Contact tracing and surveillance efforts have begun, with community members and health personnel involved in the case currently under monitoring throughout the incubation period.
