The Jigawa State Government has approved a new minimum monthly pension of N20,000 for pensioners in the state.
This was disclosed in a Press Statement issued by the State’s Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports, and Culture, Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed, following a weekly State Executive Council Meeting.
The Commissioner stated that the Council has approved an increase in the minimum pension under the State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme fromย โฆ12,000ย toย โฆ20,000ย per month, effectiveย July 1, 2026.
He said this decision reflects the governmentโs ongoing commitment to enhancing the welfare and living standards of retired public servants, acknowledging their significant contributions to the stateโs development during their active years.
Additionally, the Council approved an annual expenditure ofย โฆ2,068,608,000ย to support the revised pension scheme. The Commissioner emphasized that this decision aligns with His Excellency Malam Umar A. Namadi FCAโs dedication to promoting the well-being of pensioners, ensuring social protection for retirees, and upholding responsible, people-centered governance.
