The Nigerian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the United States conducted “precision hits” on terrorist targets in Nigeria, following an announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform. These airstrikes targeted Islamic State militants in Nigeria’s northwest region.
In a statement released early Friday, the Ministry highlighted ongoing security cooperation with international partners, including the U.S., to combat terrorism and violent extremism.
“This cooperation involves intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other support in accordance with international law and mutual respect for sovereignty,” the statement noted.
Nigeria emphasized that all counter-terrorism efforts prioritize the protection of civilian lives and uphold the rights and dignity of all citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity. The government condemned all forms of terrorist violence as a violation of Nigeria’s values and international peace.
The Federal Government remains committed to collaborating with partners to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their funding and logistics, and enhance Nigeria’s security institutions and intelligence capabilities. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will keep the public informed through official channels.
