The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Jigawa State Council, alongside its affiliate unions, has joined a peaceful protest addressing the escalating insecurity that has afflicted the nation for nearly two decades.

The protest commenced from the Labour House in Dutse and marched to the Government House, where they delivered a message from NLC National President Comrade Joe Ajero to Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi.

NLC Jigawa State Council Chairman, Comrade Sanusi Alhassan, highlighted the severe impact of violence, armed banditry, and terrorism on Nigeriaโ€™s economy and social fabric.

Represented by Comrade Hazaqilu Kore, he emphasized the devastating consequences of insecurity, which has led to widespread displacement, loss of livelihoods, and tragic fatalities, including over 2,295 teachers since 2009 and the destruction of numerous healthcare facilities.

The Chairman called for urgent reforms, including:

-The justiciability of Chapter Two of the Constitution

– The establishment of a Security Trust Fund
– A Citizens Dialogue for constitutional changes
– A special fund for victims of insecurity
– Enhanced transparency in security resource management

Additionally, he advocated for a Citizensโ€™ Security Council to foster collaboration among stakeholders and emphasized the need for judicial reforms and the criminalization of misallocation of security assets to restore public trust.

As the protest continues, Nigerian workers remain steadfast in demanding immediate action to reclaim safety and stability in their communities.

Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi thanked the workers for their peaceful protest.

Represented by the State Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Muhammad K. Dagaceri, the Governor acknowledged Jigawa as one of the most peaceful states but reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing security. He assured the workers that their message would be conveyed to the Governor for further action.
