Singer Market Fire: 7 Missing, N5 Billion in Properties Destroyed

A devastating fire outbreak at the Singer Market in Kano has resulted in the destruction of properties worth over N5 billion, affecting more than 1,000 businesses and leaving seven individuals missing.

According to Daily Trust newspaper online reported that the Market Chairman, Alhaji Junaid Zakari, described the incident as one of the worst tragedies in the market’s history, with four residential buildings housing small-scale businesses completely razed. The fire has severely impacted the livelihoods of numerous families, as goods and equipment were entirely consumed.

As of the latest report, investigations are ongoing to ascertain the whereabouts of the missing individuals, while emergency responders and security agencies are working to determine the fire’s cause. Zakari emphasized the urgent need for support to help affected traders rebuild their businesses.

Alhaji Isa Abubakar, a shop owner, reported losing goods worth over N200 million, stating, “From God we come, to Him we shall return.” Another trader, Musa Ibrahim, revealed losses exceeding N340 million, lamenting the total destruction of his shop’s contents.

Governor Abba Yusuf visited the scene during the fire, demonstrating concern and solidarity with the victims. Authorities continue to assess the situation as traders salvage what remains of their properties.
