Jigawa State Police Command reported a tragic incident involving the death of a newly wedded man, who allegedly died after consuming a poisoned meal prepared by his wife in Gauza village, Jahun LGA.

In a statement signed by CSP Shiisu Lawan Adam, Police Public Relations Officer for the Jigawa State Police Command, disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had taken his lunch at home before falling seriously ill and being rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

Following the incident, detectives from the Jahun Division acted swiftly, arresting the wife of the deceased as the principal suspect. During interrogation, she reportedly confessed to poisoning her husband’s food with rat poison and disclosed that she sent her cousin to purchase the poison used in the act.

The suspect claimed that she was coerced into the marriage by her parents, which she stated led to her actions.

The Commissioner of Police has mandated a thorough investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, after which the suspect will be prosecuted in court.

The Command urges the public to remain calm and law-abiding, advocating for lawful means of resolving family and marital disputes. The police further advise against taking the law into one’s own hands, as such actions often have irreversible consequences. The Command assures the public of its commitment to justice and the protection of lives and property across the state.
