Jigawa Approves ₦15.24 Billion for Solar-Powered Mini-Grids

The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the award of contracts for the construction of solar-powered mini-grids across key government facilities.
The State Commissioner for Health, ‌Dr Abdullahi Muhammad Kainuwa disclosed this while briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting.
Dr. Kainuwa said this decision is part of the state’s broader strategy to enhance renewable energy infrastructure and reduce reliance on conventional power sources.
He said the project, valued at ₦15,242,401,992.00, will see the installation of solar-powered mini-grids at several critical sites, including the Government House, Deputy Governor’s Office,  official residences of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Head of Service (HOS).
The Commissioner also revealed that the project will also cover, the State Secretariat Complex, House of Assembly, Judiciary Complex, and the Shuwarin/Gidan Ihu Water Plant.
He said this initiative underscores the Jigawa State government’s commitment to promoting sustainable development and mitigating the impacts of climate change. It is expected to enhance energy accessibility, improve service delivery, and contribute to the overall welfare of the state’s residents.
The Executive Council’s decision was hailed as a pivotal step toward positioning Jigawa State as a leader in renewable energy solutions in Nigeria.
